The corrosion laboratory located on campus is outfitted to perform cyclic and static accelerated corrosion tests such as ASTM G-85 and B-117.  To learn more about corrosion testing services in UDRI, please contact Doug Hansen.

Equipment Description

Two Q-Panel Q-Fog chambers are available for cyclic corrosion tests and humidity exposure.

A preparation line to clean, degrease, and conversion coat (Alodine 1200) test specimens is only a few steps away from the test chambers.  Characterization methods such as potentiodynamic (DC) polarization techniques, electrochemical impedance (AC) spectroscopy (EIS), and optical and electron microscopy are available for characterizing the  test specimens.

Located in the Corrosion Lab but under the purview of other UDRI groups are other systems such as an Atlas Weatherometer (pictured) and three Q-Panel Q-UV exposure test systems for UV-humidity exposure.

Experience

We have carried out corrosion testing for a wide variety of purposes:

  • Accelerated corrosion testing services for the USAF for the test and evaluation of coating system performance and test method development for accelerated coating degradation testing.
  • Extensive internal expertise in the testing and evaluation of corrosion preventative compounds, paints, and primers.
