The Carbon Materials group conducts research on all kinds of carbons artifacts, including nanotubes, graphite platelets, fibers, carbon/carbon composites, pyrolytic graphite and carbon foams. The group’s research focuses on:
- Optimizing processes for the fabrication of tailored thermal conductivity carbon/carbon composites and carbon foams for use as thermal barriers or thermal storage by coupling to phase change materials
- Controlling growth and functionalization of carbon nano-artifacts (nanotubes, nanofibers, nanoflakes)
- Providing full characterization and understanding of carbon structure and its physical properties (e.g. mechanical, thermal and tribological)
- Developing new carbon scaffolds and biomaterial implants
