Light Armor Design and Evaluation

Examples of ballistic tests on HMMWV (Humvee) opaque and transparent armor material
Examples of ballistic tests on HMMWV (Humvee)  opaque and transparent armor material.

The Impact Physics laboratory has the facilities and expertise to carry out armor qualification, body armor testing, ballistic limit evaluation, light-armor vehicle testing, numerical code validation, and penetration studies.

We have available an extensive array of both smoothbore and rifled barrels from 0.22 caliber through 50 mm. We can launch a wide variety of projectiles such as NATO and foreign standards, long rod penetrators (LRPs), fragment simulating projectiles (FSPs), M2AP, M80 ball, M1943 API, and saboted rounds. We routinely test to NIJ standards for body armor and bullet resistant materials.
