Coating Testing

The Coatings group is accredited to ISO 17025 and SAE AS5505 for the application, testing, and performance characterization of coatings. These accreditations verify that tests are done consistently and “by the book.”

The group performs most standard paint tests, including color, gloss, hardness, flexibility, chip resistance, chemical resistances, adhesion, dry time, and wet coatings properties. Cyclic corrosion cabinets are available for accelerated weathering using xenon arc and condensing UV exposure.  The group also offers specialized coating testing for rain erosion and dust and sand erosion.

In addition to standardized tests (see below), UDRI can modify test protocols to meet specific customer needs and conduct special tests as specified by customers. To learn more about the group’s testing capabilities, please contact Bill Culhane.

 

Among the tests covered by the Coatings group's ISO certification are color and gloss retention (R) after exposure to UV light (L).
