Sample Preparation, Characterization, and Hazardous Materials Handling Facilities

In addition to the individual research laboratories, facilities in the Environmental Engineering group include laboratories for sample preparation, characterization, and handling.

The sample preparation laboratory is specifically designed to handle small quantities with great precision. The ability to prepare small samples permits us to work with hazardous materials with reasonable safety. The materials characterization laboratory is equipped with custom analytical systems (thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, UV/VIS/IR spectrometry, etc.) for the measurement of key physical properties. A hazardous material handling facility is centrally located for the handling and storage of hazardous and toxic materials.
