The Materials Engineering division’s research efforts focus on developing a greater understanding of basic materials concepts and the application of these to provide engineering solutions to materials-related problems. Division expertise lies in the areas of materials performance and durability studies of polymer matrix composites and adhesively-bonded structures, and elastomer and sealant materials; engineering of advanced monomer and polymer systems; advanced processing technologies; materials corrosion and prevention; mechanical behavior investigation and failure analysis of advanced materials and mechanical components; and evaluation of the durability of materials and manufactured components through their life span.
