Coatings and Corrosion Inhibitor Development

UDRI has a group of professionals who carry out research in coatings development and corrosion prevention. This work is carried out both at the Materials Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and on the University of Dayton campus. These professionals have expertise in:

  • Corrosion monitoring and prevention
  • Synthesis and applications of nanocomposite sol-gel coatings
  • Corrosion inhibitor pigment for advanced coating systems
  • Metal surface and coatings interfacial analysis

We have facilities available to conduct routine electrochemical tests, including impedance spectroscopy.  The coatings laboratory is also equipped with:

  • Gamry electrochemical measurement system and framework software
  • Spin coating and dip coating equipment
  • MP-20 Dualscope for non-destructive coating thickness measurement
