UDRI does research in coatings development and corrosion prevention both at the Materials Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and on the University of Dayton campus. Researchers also have expertise in synthesis and applications of nanocomposite sol-gel coatings, and metal surface and coatings interfacial analysis.

Coatings and Corrosion Inhibitor Development

UDRI has a group of professionals who carry out research in coatings development and corrosion prevention. This work is carried out both at the Materials Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and on the University of Dayton campus. These professionals have expertise in:

Corrosion monitoring and prevention
Synthesis and applications of nanocomposite sol-gel coatings
Corrosion inhibitor pigment for advanced coating systems
Metal surface and coatings interfacial analysis

We have facilities available to conduct routine electrochemical tests, including impedance spectroscopy. The coatings laboratory is also equipped with:

Gamry electrochemical measurement system and framework software
Spin coating and dip coating equipment
MP-20 Dualscope for non-destructive coating thickness measurement
