Dr. Ervin is the group leader for the Modeling and Simulation group, which was formed in 2003. He has authored over 80 research publications and has 19 years of experience in the computational simulation of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and chemical kinetics. In particular, he has performed numerical simulations of flows which involve fuel chemistry, multiphase flow, and phase change heat transfer. In addition, he has interests in the modeling of gas turbine heat transfer. Dr. Ervin has also performed heat transfer experiments related to turbine blade cooling and the development of a surface temperature measurement technique involving thermographic phosphors. He has been the research advisor for numerous graduate students. Dr. Ervin joined the university in 1991.
