2001 Award Winners
Two exceptional employees of the University of Dayton Research Institute were honored April 19, 2001, at its annual Awards Banquet.
Dennis Davis of the Aerospace Mechanics division was UDRI’s Outstanding Technician for 2000. Dennis is a member of the Fuels and Combustion group at Wright-Patterson AFB, and plays an important role in the continuing development of new fuels for aircraft. Dennis’ primary responsibility is to operate and maintain the Extended Duration Thermal Stability Test system, which has been identified by the government as a critical test in the evaluation of fuel thermal stability. Dennis’ value lies in his ability to quickly diagnose and solve problems, and in his willingness to volunteer extra time to ensure that a test can be completed. Dennis also supervises other technicians, and operates a LECO carbon analyzer to ensure fast turnaround of test data.
Diana Muhlenkamp received the 2000 Outstanding Support Person Award. Diana received the award for her efforts to conduct the complex operations of the Office of Technology Partnerships with minimal supervision during the seven month search for a new director. In addition, she served on the search committee for the new director and performed most of the support work for that committee. Diana drew on her 16 years of experience to anticipate the needs of the new Director for Technology Partnerships, Dr. John Leland, and orchestrated a smooth transition for him. She also quickly brought Dr. Leland up to speed on the history of the University’s technology transfer activities.
UDRI established these awards in 1996 as a way to recognize outstanding performance in the previous calendar year. Each award is accompanied by a prize of $500 and an engraved plaque. John Bultman served as the chair of the Outstanding Technician Award selection committee. Karen Barnes served as the chair of the Outstanding Support Person Award selection committee.
