Prior to being named division head in 2004, Peter was group leader for the Structural Test group. Peter has more than 25 years of experience in all areas of structural, component, and materials testing using servo-hydraulic test equipment and digital measurement and control systems. He has been a principal investigator for: (a) component and structural testing for government agencies and aerospace and automotive industries; (b) testing of impact damage in composites; (c) high strain rate testing; (d) fatigue and crack growth studies under spectrum loading of both metallic and composite materials for major airframers; and (e) MIL-HDBK testing of various materials.
Peter is currently the principal investigator on a U.S. Air Force program to develop an in-situ process for retrogression and re-aging (RRA) of AL 7075-T6 to improve the stress corrosion resistance in particular and corrosion resistance in general of aging AF aircraft structures. The RRA process is an intermediate heat treatment which when applied to Al 7075-T6 material results in corrosion resistance approaching that of the T73 temper, while maintaining the high strength of the T6 temper.
