Turbine Engines and Components
For over twenty years, UDRI has provided independent design, analysis, testing, and development expertise for turbine engine systems with an emphasis on technical problem solving. The Structures and Mechanical Systems group has provided support to the Air Force, Navy, and turbine engine manufacturers on a wide variety of turbine engine technologies. Specific examples of our turbine engine component experience include:
- Development of analytical material models for inter-metallic alloys for next-generation engines
- Assessment of damage tolerance of fielded turbine disks
- Development of predictive capabilities for airfoil dovetail fretting fatigue
- Analysis of laser shock peening on fan blades for life improvement
- Determination of mistuning effects on the forced response of bladed disks
- Prediction of foreign object damage in bladed disks
- Simulation of blade-out events for the design of kevlar containment systems
- Demonstration of a passive damping design for bladed disks
- Development of multi-axial fatigue test methods
