The Energy and Environmental Engineering division conducts basic and applied research in the areas of fuel science, fuels engineering, combustion, environmental engineering, modeling and simulation, and energy conservation. Areas of expertise include: aviation jet fuel chemistry, additives and deposit formation, fuel thermal stability modeling and testing, intelligent fuels, low-temperature fuel development, integrated thermal management, aircraft fuel and hydraulic systems, computational fluid mechanics, particulate and gaseous pollutant emissions, gas turbine combustion, incineration of hazardous wastes, emissions of hazardous air pollutants from combustion and manufacturing processes, thermal stability of materials, development of advanced chromatographic analytical techniques, trace-level analytical studies of organic contaminants in air and water, and benign materials substitution and green chemistry. The division also provides test methods for fuel properties and fuel handling.

 

The division works closely with the Von Ohain Fuels and Combustion Center.
